Tips and tricks for faster drying laundry
Share
Many people dry their laundry on a clothes rack—but this can be a challenge. High humidity, long drying times, and even the risk of mold are common problems. With these simple measures, you can speed up drying and improve your quality of life at the same time.
These factors influence the drying time on the clothes rack
Residual moisture – finding the ideal balance
The spinning process itself lays the foundation for drying time. The higher the spin speed, the more water is removed from the laundry. But be careful: Too high a spin speed can strain and damage fabrics.
✅ Tip: Choose a moderate spin speed (max. 1200 rpm) when washing. If you're washing delicate fabrics or generally want to protect your clothes, you should accept the longer drying time and use a lower spin speed (800–1000 rpm).
Humidity – it’s your turn
If the room air is already humid, it hardly absorbs any moisture from the laundry. This significantly delays the drying process and increases the risk of mold.
✅ Tip: Regular ventilation (5 – 10 minutes) reduces humidity, prevents mold growth and accelerates drying.
Temperature – Not too cold, not too warm
Warmer air can absorb more moisture than cold air. However, that doesn't mean you should turn the heating up all the way – for the sake of your wallet and the environment.
✅ Tip: A room temperature of 20–22°C is optimal and completely sufficient. Cold, damp rooms are unsuitable.
Hang laundry properly – More space for faster drying
If laundry is hung too tightly, moisture will remain trapped and can't escape. This can cause your laundry to become sticky and smell musty.
✅ Tip: Make sure to leave enough space between the laundry items and hang them up without overlapping.
Air circulation – the decisive factor
Without movement, the moist air stagnates. This quickly prevents the laundry from releasing any more moisture. The result: incredibly long drying times.
✅ Tip: Ensure air circulation so that your laundry can continuously release moisture into the environment.
